I can't believe it. Wasn't it just yesterday that I wrote my blog entry about it being only 66 days till we moved into our townhome? [Or maybe I'm just making excuses for neglecting my blog ;)] -- I still remember the night I said to my roommates, "Only 17 more weeks to go! This has flown by!" Yes, it certainly has.
Now, only ONE WEEK to go. This time next Saturday we'll be cutting the cake and sending people out on the dance floor. Crazy how quickly these 9 and a half months have gone.
It just snuck up on me. But oh I've been prepared!
Tobe and I've been preparing for the upcoming wedding week madness by spending much-needed time away from wedding shenanigans ((whenever we can)). We've focused on moving into the townhome, tidying up our new place, going to see Batman and having a dinner and at-home movie date night together.
But my parents and I have been preparing in a totally different way.
It's been organized chaos the past few weeks -- finalizing with vendors; measuring and remeasuring venues; gathering gifts for the bridal party; making a mess in the house, cleaning, then making a mess again; and many other things I'm afraid I can't tell you about now ((but that you'll soon see!)). I hope our hard work pays off and the wedding guests will see the fruits of our labor.
...Because this wedding stuff is tough.
Aside from that, we've been getting ready for life as a married couple by continuing our devotions together and being counseled by our pastor, family and friends.
In the past week, we've been given several books about life: two on how to invest and budget our money, two on how to better understand the opposite sex, and four Christian books on, well, sex. ((What, you have sex when you get married?)) In all honesty, that subject is about fourth or fifth on my mind when I think about getting married. I usually think about things in this order:
1. I'll have more time to spend with Toby.
Really, a treat. I couldn't have been blessed with a better man to marry.
2. I'll have a roommate again.
Some of you may know, I'm a wimp when it comes to sleeping by myself or far away from others in a house. Which is why I've moved from the basement to the upstairs guest room by my parents' bedroom this summer. The basement is too far from civilization ((thanks for leaving me alone down there Seth Jensen)). I also can never spend the night alone in an empty house. The day Toby starts traveling for business is the day we get a dog.
((Preview Christmas card of future Toby and Chelsea and their dog))
3. I'll get to cook and bake and have a willing mouth to feed it to.
An experiment, but hopefully I'll improve. I'm marrying a food connoisseur of "anything that tastes good."
4. I'll be a homemaker.
Hooray! I am so happy to have my own dishes, crystal, coffee table, plants and throw pillows. The joys of growing up are many.
5. Well, you know. Aforementioned.
There are so many things to look forward to, and I can't wait to experience them all with the most amazing man.
Here's to soaking up the next 7 days with family and to spending the rest of my life with Toby Koerten.
Goin' to the cha-pel and we're, gon-na get mar-ar-aried...
Well said........
