March 2008 |
I know some of your are thinking, "Well - It's about time," and others are saying, "They are way too young."
But we believe that God works out all things in his perfect timing - including an engagement. And we are beyond blessed to be able to say 6 years later... we're getting married!!!!
Many of you have known us for most of our lives. And many of you have watched our relationship grow into what it is today.
((Some of you even remember back to 7th grade when Toby broke up with me via e-mail!))
But if you don't know "our story" - or you want to remember again with me - here's a quick summary...
Toby and I grew up together - we went to the same schools since kindergarten, had the same friends - but we didn't really start to know each other until 7th grade.
That year - when we were 12 and 13 years old - we travelled with our 7th grade class to Nashville for the BETA Club convention at the Opryland Hotel. Toby was campaigning for State Reporter and all of us were helping him campaign for the office. ((He won, by the way!))
Toby asked me to be his girlfriend that weekend. Asked me to dance at the BETA Club dance in Nashville. Then broke up with me ((yes, through e-mail)) 2 weeks later.
Needless to say, I wasn't too fond of Toby after that.
In 8th grade, both of us campaigned for Student Council President at Sevierville Middle School. I won, and he lost by a considerable margin ((pay back is sweet!))
Fast forward to 9th grade, and Toby makes another debut in my life. He asked me on our first date to the movies via the Internet ((ironic!)), but I turned him down. I went to the movies anyway with a girlfriend to see the terrible movie In Her Shoes. Toby was at the theater and followed Whitney Whaley and me into the movie. He sat beside me, and 2 hours later he reached over to hold my hand.
And the rest is history.
If you would have asked us at that moment if we thought we would marry each other, we would have said uh-uh, no way.
Actually, if you would have asked how long we thought our relationship would last, we would have said maybe a month.
It's been 75 months.
And I'll always love the movie In Her Shoes.
