And while I'd love to say it's another pageant gown that will send me to Miss America ((Happy Miss America Day, by the way!)), it's really so much more than that. As Momma put it, today I pick "the best pageant gown ever."
I've been almost overwhelmed these past 3 months with the amount of decisions Toby and I have had to make for our wedding ((and marriage)). With a wedding, a fulltime job and a fulltime class schedule, it's hard to find the time to plan for these next 7 months that I'm sure will fly by.
But today, I have more than enough time in the world.
I will make another very important decision with Momma by my side. The only difference is that instead of making my choice based on obligation, logic, or other's expectations, this decision is solely centered around two questions, "Can I see myself marrying Toby in this gown?" ((and which one will help me feel radiant on my wedding day?))
Out of all the wedding planning, I believe today will be the easiest and most exciting decision I have the opportunity to make. Those of you who are married or have helped plan a wedding know how exhausting everything can be ((I won't go into detail)). Or, if you've been forced to listen to me this past month talk about all the plans, you're probably just as exhausted as I am ((several of you are nodding your head right now)). Either way, I think most of you would agree that this is one of the most special times in a woman's life.
I am so happy Momma will be with me today, helping me choose 'the' gown of my life. We've been through 9 years of having to choose gowns ((does that make us professionals?)), and we certainly know how to tell which one is the one ((almost as easy as knowing Toby was the one)).
So whether it's a mermaid, a silk, a satin, an empire waist, a tulle, a couture or a traditional ball gown...
Whether it has a chapel, a cathedral or a simple and short train...
Whether I choose a feather veil, a teased veil, a hair peice ((or maybe even a hat veil)) ((I would hope that's when Momma would put her foot down!))...
I know whatever gown I choose, it will be my gown to cherish the rest of my life.
Because it's more than just the white and the lace.
It's about the promises. And the commitment. And the first thing I'll be wearing when I become Mrs. Chelsea Koerten.
((Three cheers for my blog winning the "sappy & cheesy" award!))
Congrats on the engagement. You will make a beautiful bride no matter what dress you pick. Keep it simple, thou, so you can outshine the dress and accessories. I'm assuming you went White Lace and Promises in Knoxville. The ladies there are amazing! That is where I got my dress. It is definitely the best bridal shop in Knoxville. They are professional and really are great at helping brides find the one. If you need any referrals, let me know. Just remember that it is about you and Toby and this is just one day of the rest of your lives.
